The Makeup Timer Test Tag

For my next post I thought I'd try out a beauty blogger tag - the makeup timer test

I guess I've always wondered how long my everyday makeup routine actually takes, after being moaned at countless times by my parents, friends and boyfriend that it takes me far too long to get ready (I'm that girl that arrives right at the end of pre-drinks, with just enough time to down a drink before jumping into the taxi for a night out with my uni friends - GUILTY!).

It turns out I take about 12 minutes which isn't as long as I expected (believe it or not - I said I was slow okay?!).

My face of the day looked like this (sorry for the scary close up!!):

It took me 12:05 minutes, here's the breakdown:

Foundation = 2:43
Concealer = 1:57
Eyebrows = 1:32
Liquid Liner = 2:08
Eyelashes & Waterline = 1:39
Blusher = 0:16
Powder = 0:10
Eyeshadow = 1:26
Lips = 0:12
My pretty Ted Baker Makeup Bag

I delved into my makeup bag to find these products for today's look:
Foundation:
Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation in "ivory", applied with the Real Techniques Stippling Brush. I love this foundation so much that I've moved away from my beloved MAC Studio Fix Fluid in favour of this! It does a great job of concealing imperfections, even before using concealer and powder - great for a medium/full buildable coverage without feeling heavy on the skin.

Concealer:
I used the holy grail of all concealers - NARS radiant creamy concealer in "vanilla'. Seriously best concealer ever, even though I have to go on a wild goose hunt every time I run out - sort out your stock issues NARS! Never thought I'd love another concealer as much as Collection's Lasting Perfection but NARS has done it!

Eyebrows:
I never used to bother with my brows aside from having them threaded, but when perfect brows really entered into the beauty mix I decided to have a go.
After I few failed attempts at filling my brows in with brown eyeshadow (that resulted in me making myself look like I had slugs for eyebrows, I invested in an eyebrow pencil called Brow Artist by L'Oréal in 'blonde' (I don't like my brows to look too dark) which was a great product to start with.

Later on, I invested in Benefit's Gimme Brow in 'light/medium'. I love Gimme Brow and it's totally worth the money - a quick and easy brow solution.

Today I combed my brows through with the brush on the Brow Artist Eyebrow Pencil, brushed on some Gimme Brow and held it all in place using the wax pencil end of my Brow Artist pencil. Done and dusted!
Next on my list of products to try out are the Anastasia Beverly Hills 5-Element Brow Kit and the Dipbrow Pomade

Liquid Liner:
I don't think my battle with liquid liner will ever end - I can never get it perfect. NEVER. And forget trying out winged liner, I'm doomed from the start to have wonky liner that doesn't match the other eye. But as a friend once said to me "your eyes are sisters, not identical twins" (thanks Lucy).

The liner I battle with least is the Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner Pen in 'carbon black' - it seems to be more forgiving than others I've tried, it's fairly easy to apply and lasts ages! Used in combination with the Simple Eye Makeup Corrector Pen, I'm winning.

Eyelashes and Waterline:
I always seem to stick to the same products for my lashes. I used the Shu Uemura Eyelash curler (which, FYI, is the best one I've ever tried) followed by lining my waterlines with L'Oréal's Color Riche Le Khôl in 'midnight black' (I find that it doesn't end up half way down my face by the end of the day like some other kohl crayons I've used. I finish off with lashings of Benefit's They're Real! mascara, which I'm sure you've all heard is AMAZING - can't wait for the new push up liner they've created to be released!

Blusher:
My blusher routine is super quick - I apply Benefit's Hervana Blush with the EcoTools Bamboo Blush Bush over the apples of my cheeks - simple! Hervana is a beautiful blush, a subtle yet buildable peach blossom pink.

Powder:
I use bareMinerals Original SPF15 Foundation in 'fairly light' to blend and seal the rest of the layers of my makeup using the bareMinerals Full Coverage Kabuki Brush and the bareMinerals Max Coverage Concealer Brush to conceal any last imperfections.
Eyeshadow:
I don't tend to use eyeshadow on a day-to-day basis. For me it's something extra I'll use if I'm going somewhere nice. But today I decided to crack out my Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette (although the original naked palette is still my favourite - guilty again!) to create a subtle bronze smokey eye (which you can't really see in the picture - apologies!) using the shades 'Strange', 'Liar' and 'Factory'. I'm hoping it will last the day because I'm off out for cocktails with some friends this evening!

Lips:
Again, lipstick isn't usually something I wear everyday, but I find Estēe Lauder's Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in 'potent' is very wearable - I keep it in my handbag in case I need to freshen up my look during the day as I think it goes with most outfits/makeup looks and it has fairly good lasting power, so I popped it on this morning for an extra pop of colour on this sunny day!

So that's it - makeup complete!
If you want to take part in this tag, follow these simple instructions:

1. Set your stopwatch to record each step of your makeup routine, stopping and resetting between each step. Don't forget to write down the timings!

2. Do your everyday makeup routine at your usual speed, don't rush - you want to see how long it really takes don't you?!

3. Write a post with your timings and a list of what makeup you used.

4. Enjoy!
Thanks for reading :)
